CitiIQ Measurement System Launches in North America

News Release

Scoring of 35 Considerations Provides Comprehensive View of a City’s Health and Wellbeing

Toronto, Canada – August 19, 2019 – Today, CitiIQ Inc., an innovator in the human-centric measurement of cities, is launching the CitiIQ measurement system in North America. Inspired by the urban surge across the globe, CitiIQ is working to become the global standard for measuring cities, communities and towns. The system is obtained online through an annual cloud-based subscription and is currently available for cities with a population of more than 100,000 people.

The system uses a standard approach for cities around the world, providing a benchmark for comparison. CitiIQ currently operates in Europe, the United Kingdom, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, now expanding its service to North America, following municipal elections held at the end of 2018.

The CitiIQ measurement system provides a score out of 100 for a city’s 35 most critical “Considerations” such as Supply of Water and Energy, Education, Employment, Safety and Security, Ethical Compass, Transportation, Connectivity, Political Stability, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Tourism, Social Isolation (full list shown below). It uses a non-linear approach in aggregating the “Total City Score” by placing Considerations in a prioritized hierarchy so that the most “Basic Needs” have the highest weighting. In this way the measurement more adequately reflects the multi-faceted aspects of a city through a human lens, the true measure of a city’s success.

“With so many pressures facing municipal leaders, proper advanced planning is critical for the sustainable growth of cities,” says Donald E. Simmonds, President and Chief Executive Officer of CitiIQ.  “The important steps of goal-setting, long-term strategy and accurate design rely on objective, comprehensive measures to inform the process. The genius of the CitiIQ measurement system is that it illuminates the relative strengths and weaknesses of a city on an ongoing basis.”

City leaders, infrastructure investors, Chambers of Commerce or other organizations interested in a comprehensive view of a particular city can subscribe to CitiIQ through a cloud-based dashboard. The active dashboard allows clients to view quarterly updates, drill-down into the underlying data, set goals and make presentations.

Interested parties can fully test the CitiIQ experience at no cost from anywhere in the world using the online demonstration available at www.citiiq.com.

About CitiIQ:
CitiIQ is a comprehensive system that objectively measures the overall health and wellbeing of a city. Using an intuitive online dashboard style interface, a city’s measurements are made readily available to clients through a cloud-based annual subscription. CitiIQ scores 35 essential elements called Considerations, within a framework of five prioritized Dimensions  known as Basic Needs, Competitiveness, Opportunity, Livability, and Destiny.  Often used as a diagnostic tool, CitiIQ considers the economic, environmental, social and cultural infrastructures of a city using an algorithm that normalizes scores for 114 data points or Indicators. By scoring each Indicator, Consideration and Dimension out of 100, clients are provided with a comparable, holistic picture of a city’s strengths and weaknesses. Non-linear aggregation is used to more adequately reflect the multi-faceted aspects of a city through the human lens, the true measure of a city’s success. Scores for each Indicator, Consideration, Dimension and the Total City Score are updated quarterly and are made available immediately through the interface (BI). Working to become the global standard for city diagnostics, CitiIQ employs an evidence-based methodology that informs human-centric design to help a city, community or town reach its full potential.
